Robert James Dineen, 41, of Des Moines was arrested Thursday on charges of attempted murder and reckless use of a firearm.

A Des Moines man allegedly fired a pistol at a Waukee man Thursday evening in an apparent fit of road rage on U.S. Interstate 80 in Waukee.

Robert James Dineen, 41, of 5811 Forest Ave., Des Moines, was charged with attempted murder and reckless use of a firearm.

The incident occurred about 7:45 p.m. Thursday in the westbound lanes of U.S. Interstate 80 between the 117 and 119 mile markers, where a 911 caller said “a bald man in a turquoise shirt shot a gun at him,” according to court records.

Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs responded to the report and conducted a traffic stop at the 88 mile marker of a 2024 Tesla Model Y, driven by Dineen.

A deputy made contact with Dineen and “in plain view” saw “a handgun with a long silencer on the passenger floorboard and a spent shell casing laying on the passenger seat,” according to court records.

The deputies made contact with the victim, who told the deputies that while driving Dineen “was yelling at him, and he could see the weapon pointed toward him,” according to court records.

The victim provided a video to law enforcement that appeared to show Dineen “pointing the gun with the long silencer at the victim, wearing blue latex gloves,” and then one can “hear the gun go off twice,” according to court records.

A witness to the incident told the deputies that Dineen “did point a gun with a silencer through the passenger window,” and the witness “saw shots hit a FedEx truck in front of the victim’s car,” according to court records.

Dineen is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for an initial appearance July 1 in Dallas County District Court.
