Sen. Sarah Trone Garriot, the Windsor Heights Democrat in the Iowa Senate who defeated Republican challenger Mark Hanson from Waukee, longtime members of the Dallas County Board of Supervisors, in 2024 will speak Saturday afternoon in Wiese Park at the Dallas County Democrats summer cook-out.

The free event will last from noon until 4 p.m., and Trone Garriott is expected to address the picnickers about 2 p.m. She first won the seat in Iowa Senate District 22 in 2020 by defeating Clive Republican Scott Cirksena.

Redistricting led in 2022 to Trone Garriott’s successful reelection in the newly created Iowa Senate District 14, where she unseated the Adel Republican and Iowa Senate President Jake Chapman. Voters returned her to office for a third time in 2024, when she beat Hanson.

In May Trone Garriott announced her candidacy for U.S. House of Representatives in Iowa’s third congressional district, a seat currently held by Altoona Republican Zach Nunn.
