Severe thunderstorm warning until 7 p.m. for Perry

The city of Perry activated the public safety emergency sirens at 6 p.m. and again at 6:13 p.m. Saturday in order to signify a severe thunderstorm warning for the Perry area in effect until 7 p.m.

At 5:56 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Dakota City to Lake Panorama, moving northeast at 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service office in Johnston.

Winds exceeding 70 mph are possible, with damage to roofs, siding and trees expected.

At 6:07 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Perry to near Adel to near Van Meter, moving northeast at 50 mph, with 70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

Along with Perry, the cities under the severe thunderstorm warning include Fort Dodge, Boone, Webster City, Jefferson, Clarion, Guthrie Center, Eagle Grove, Ogden, Panora, Gowrie, Lake Panorama, Elm Lake, Fort Dodge Regional Airport, Boone Speedway, Dayton, Grand Junction, Stratford, Goldfield and Coalville. Des Moines, Ames, West Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Johnston, Clive, Altoona, Waukee, Boone, Norwalk, Pleasant Hill, Grimes, Winterset, Adel, Windsor Heights, Bondurant, Polk City and Huxley.
