Shirley Maxine Morgan was born Nov. 18, 1936, north of Dallas Center, Iowa, to E. E. and Gladys C. (Royer) Lanham.

Her family moved to a farm one mile south and one mile west of the Panther Store near Adel when she was 15 months old, and she went to the Colfax #3 school.

In 1949 her family moved to Perry, and she entered school at Perry High School, graduating with the class of 1954.

On March 18, 1956, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Myron Morgan. They moved to Lawton, Okla., for 1.5 years while Myron was in the U.S. Army. It was there where their first daughter was born.

In 1958 they moved to a farm north of Dallas Center. Together they farmed and had a dairy herd for 39 years.

Myron passed away in 2006, and Shirley continued to stay on the farm until moving to Grimes in 2011. After retirement, she worked at McDonald’s in Urbandale.

She enjoyed doing needlework, baking, collecting salt and pepper shakers and decorative chickens. She especially loved spending time with her family.

In death she rejoins her husband, Myron; a daughter, Brenda; parents, E. E. and Gladys Lanham; brother, George Franklin Lanham; and a sister, Nona Lewis.

Left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her sons and their spouses, Kelvin (Debbie) Morgan of Des Moines and Carvel (Barbara) Morgan of Davenport; daughters and their spouses, Cheryl (Ken) McCoy of Des Moines, Carla (Kevin) Squires of Urbandale, Kathy (Rick) Spoelstra of Templeton, Iowa, and Colleen of Grimes; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; a brother, Darrell (Velta) Lanham of Torrance, Calif.; and her beloved grand-dog, Coco.
