Sixth-ranked Panther girls rally to top No. 15 Van Meter

VAN METER — Class 2A No. 6 Panorama outscored host and 15th-rated Van Meter, 24-7, in the second half to claim a 45-33 win in WCAC girls basketball Tuesday.

The previously unbeaten hosts held a 12-8 lead after one quarter and entered the intermission with a 26-21 edge over Panorama (5-0, 4-0). The Panther defense rose to the challenge in the third quarter, limiting Van Meter (5-1, 2-1) to just four points while scoring 15 of their own to surge to a 36-30 lead. A 9-3 edge over the final eight minutes created the 45-33 victory.

Bailey Beckman had 15 points to pace Panorama, with Morgan Johnk adding seven points and Shey Storesund and Brooke Halterman six points apiece. Payton Beckman had five points, Anna Holloway three, Ella Waddle two and Vallerie Storesund one.

Johnk recorded eight rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots, with Bailey Beckman clearing seven boards and Payton Beckman five.

Panorama visits AC/GC Friday before hosting Ogden Tuesday. The Panther girls will wrap the pre-holiday portion of their schedule in a boys/girls non-conference trip to Mount Ayr Dec. 20, while the Panther boys will host Woodward Academy Dec. 21.
