Sixth-ranked Panthers dispatch Gaels in regional play

PANORA — Four players scored in double-digits as Class 2A No. 6 Panorama rolled to a 74-46 win over Fort Dodge St. Edmond their Region 4 Quarterfinal Tuesday.

The win keeps Panorama (21-1) both alive and playing at home, where they will host Interstate-35 (16-6) Friday at 7 p.m. in the semifinal round. The Roadrunners won their eighth consecutive game with a 55-46 victory against Ogden Tuesday.

The winner of Friday’s game advances to the Region 4 Final Monday in Waukee. The game will tip at 7 p.m., with Van Meter and Des Moines Christian to meet in the other semifinal.

The Panthers were off quickly against the Gaels (5-19), racing to a 16-9 lead after eight minutes of action. By halftime the margin stood at 39-20, with the hosts holding a 62-36 advantage as the third quarter ended.

Megan Flattery led FDSE with 20 points, with Erin Flattery and Olivia Huss each scoring eight points. Jacque Oberg provided four points, with Abby Landwehr, Hannah Huss and Jacy Timmerman contributing two points apiece.

The Gaels made two 3-pointers — both by Olivia Huss — and finished 6-of-10 at the foul line.

The Panthers were 17-of-22 at the stripe and connected on five treys, with Devyn Kemble splashing four and Bailey Beckman one.

Beckman led the home team with 19 points, with Kemble adding 18, Morgan Johnk 17 and Faith Powell 12. Four points from Kellie Prince and two apiece from Hope Wilderman and Nicole Rolfes capped the Panther scoring.
