Skid continues for Panther netters

WOODWARD — The Panorama volleyball team was kept from victory in four matches Saturday at the Norm McCune Invite in Woodward, leaving the Panthers (5-20) entering the postseason on a 14-game winless slide.

Panorama had fallen, Oct. 15, to visiting W-G on scores of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-18, with host Des Moines Christian topping the Panthers, 25-8, 25-13, 25-10 Thursday.

Saturday saw Panorama upended by W-G (21-8, 21-9), South Hardin (21-14, 21-19), AC/GC (21-11, 23-21) and Colfax-Mingo (14-21, 21-12, 21-8). Statistics which follow are from the combined AC/GC, South Hardin and Colfax-Mingo matches only.

Jordan Douglass had 10 kills, Maggie Woodvine had nine kills, and Audrey Cmelik eight to lead the Panthers, with Angel Poldberg having five, Emma Powell and Shey Storesund three apiece, Grace Richey two and Payton Douglass one. Powel’s 15 assists, and eight from Payton Douglass, fed the offense, with Richey providing three assists and Woodvine one.

Jordan Douglass and Woodvine each had 11 digs and Lindsay VanGundy six, with five from Paige Cmelik and a scattering from others pacing the defense. Storesund had two blocks at the net and Jordan Douglass one.

The Panthers struggled serving in the three recorded matches available, finishing 83-of-101 with nine aces.

Woodvine was 16-18-1, Paige Cmelik 13-13-1 and Audrey Cmelik 12-13-1, with Jordan Douglass 12-17-3 and Payton Douglass 11-16-1. Richey was 6-10-1 behind the line, Powell 5-5-1 and VanGundy 8-of-8, with Storesund missing on her lone attempt.

Panorama will play host West Central Valley tonight in a Class 2A Region 5 contest. The winner will advance to meet host Earlham Monday. Matches begin at 7 p.m.
