A South Dakota man who allegedly strangled a Waukee woman in a domestic fight and took away her phone to prevent her calling the police was arrested Sunday evening.
Prince Harris, 25, of 1400 W. 26th St., Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was charged with domestic abuse assault-impeding flow of air/blood and obstruction of emergency communications.
The incident began about 4 a.m. Sunday when officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 1100 block of S.E. Maple Leaf Lane in Waukee.
According to court records, the female victim told officers that Harris allegedly “grabbed her by the throat and impeded her airway” and then “hit her approximately six times in the head.”
Officers observed the victim “had a big cut on her throat and had cuts to her fingers.”
After the assault, Harris allegedly “took her phone so she could not call 911 and left the
residence,” according to the victim.
Officers returned to the residence about 10:45 p.m. Sunday and made contact with Harris, who claimed that the victim “came home with those marks,” according to court records. Harris was arrested and transported to the Dallas County Jail.
Harris was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to posting a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 18 in Dallas County District Court.
