Special-election voting begins in Granger, Urbandale

Urbandale voters will decide in a March 7 special election whether to finance a $43 million community recreational complex.

ADEL, Iowa — Early voting has begun for the March 7 special elections in Granger and Urbandale, the Dallas County Commissioner of Elections has announced.

In bond referenda differed widely in scale, Granger voters will be asked whether they approve a $3 million bond sale to finance a new city hall and public safety building, and Urbandale voters will decide whether to finance a $43 million community recreational complex.

Granger voters will face the following ballot question:

Shall the City of Granger, Iowa, enter into a loan agreement and issue its General Obligation Capital Loan Notes in an amount not to exceed $3,000,000 for the purpose of designing, constructing, equipping, and furnishing a new Public Safety Building and City Hall, with related site improvements?

Any eligible elector of the city of Granger may vote at:

  • Emmanuel United Methodist Church: 1910 Locust St., Granger

Urbandale voters will face the following ballot question:

Shall the City of Urbandale, Iowa, issue its General Obligation Bonds or Capital Loan Notes in an amount not exceeding the amount of $43,000,000 for the purpose of designing, constructing, equipping, and furnishing a new community recreation complex, with related recreational site improvements?

Any eligible elector of the city of Urbandale may vote at:

  • Urbandale 14 & 15 – The Mission Church, 12001 Ridgemont Dr., Urbandale
  • Urbandale 16 – Ignit Sports & Fitness, 200 S.E. 37th St., #100, Grimes
  • Urbandale 17 & 18 – Waukee Lutheran Church of Hope, 305 N.E. Dartmoor Dr., Waukee

The Dallas County Auditor’s office at 210 N. 10th St. in Adel is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Voters have until 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20 for the voter pre-registration deadline. Voters who register after Feb. 20 or at the polls on the March 7 election day will need to show proof of residence and proof of identity. Proof of residency must be current within the last 45 days.

Proof of residency can be accomplished with:

  • Property tax statement
  • Utility bill
  • Bank Statement
  • Paycheck
  • Other government document

Acceptable proofs of identification must contain a photo:

  • An Iowa driver’s license
  • Out-of-state driver’s license
  • Non-driver identification card
  • U.S. passport
  • Veteran ID

Mailed requests for an absentee ballot are due by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The Dallas County Commissioner of Elections must receive an original signed copy by the deadline in order to be mailed an absentee ballot.

Voters may cast an absentee ballot in person at the Dallas County Auditor’s office during normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until March 6.
