Youngsters bitten by the wrestling bug will have a chance to scratch their competitive itch Sunday as the Junior Jays host a Perry Youth Wrestling Tournament at both the Perry High School and Middle School gyms.
The event is open for boys pre-K through grade six with little or no experience, and, importantly, for any girls pre-K though grade eight regardless of experience.
Weigh-ins will begin at 8 a.m. and last until 9:30 a.m. Four-person round robin brackets will be established, boys and girls, in pre-K and kindergarten, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8 (girls). Every attempt will be made to match girls against girls. In instances where that is not possible, parents will have the option of having their daughter placed in a co-ed bracket or of receiving a refund.
Registration must be made online before 6 p.m. Saturday. A $20 fee, which does not include insurance and which is non-refundable in the event of foul weather, must be paid online at that time. There are no exceptions to the registration and fee payment deadlines.
All wrestlers will receive medals, with winners awarded beanies and a wall chart.
