Steve Crusan, 78, of Perry passed away Sept. 7, 2025, at the Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home-Perry Chapel, followed by interment at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa.
Stephen Wayne Crusan was born Feb. 5, 1947, to Wayne R. Crusan and Willetta (Kibby) Crusan of Perry.
Steve, as an infant and toddler, lived in Greensboro, N.C., Lamoni, Iowa, and Denver, Colorado, with the family moving back to Perry in 1952.
He attended school in Perry and graduated from Perry High School in 1965.
Steve married Jane Bimmel in 1975. Steve and Jane lived near Minburn until 1978, when they purchased a home and moved to Perry.
Steve worked at various factories and construction jobs for brief periods of time as a young man and then spent six years working at Hunter Oil Co. in Minburn.
He began working for the state of Iowa in 1975 at Camp Dodge as a maintenance worker, later transferring to Woodward Resource Center in 1979 as an auto mechanic. In 1995, Steve transferred back to Camp Dodge and retired from there in 2008 after a 33-year career with the state.
Steve was a self-taught mechanic. From a very young age, he loved anything mechanical. Tearing things apart and putting them back together to see what made them tick was a joy and a never-ending thirst.
He also enjoyed radio-controlled model airplanes, fishing, photography, wood and metal working and vegetable gardening.
Steve was also a history buff.
Steve was preceded in death by his father and mother; a new-born sister; and his step-mother, Betty Crusan.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jane Crusan of Perry; son, Charles (Tracee) Crusan; two granddaughters, Jaelin and Vivianne Crusan of Ankeny; and brothers, Michael Crusan of Des Moines and Mark Crusan of Bloomington, Minnesota.
