
Dallas County residents who suffered losses in the severe storms and flooding of June 24 are eligible to receive up to $5,000 in grant funds as a result of Governor Terry E. Branstad’s proclamation of a disaster emergency.
The governor issued the proclamation today, making money available to residents of the 18 Iowa counties affected by the severe weather.
Grants are available up to $5,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level, or a maximum annual income of $40,180, for a family of three. The money can be used for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food and for the expense of temporary housing.

“After they fill out the application and send in receipts, we need to see if they qualify so most will probably will need an appointment unless they received LIHEAP recently,” Ventura said. People in the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) already have their paperwork on file, but all others must apply for the grant finds, she said.
Original receipts are required for those seeking reimbursement for actual expenses related to storm recovery, Ventura said.

The governor’s proclamation allows state resources to be used for tornado damage occurring in in Wapello June 20 and after as well as storm damage occurring June 24 Adair, Allamakee, Appanoose, Butler, Clayton, Dallas, Des Moines, Guthrie, Henry, Howard, Lee, Lucas, Marion, Mitchell, Polk, Warren and Winneshiek counties.
Money from the Iowa Individual Assistance Program will also help storm victims in Adair, Appanoose, Dallas, Guthrie, Henry, Lucas, Marion, Polk, Wapello and Warren counties.
Potential applicants have 45 days from the date of the proclamation to submit a claim before the Aug. 14 deadline.
