High winds damaged trees and downed power lines across Perry Monday night.

Trees were split and power lines downed Monday night when a thunderstorm whipped the Perry area with 60 mph wind gusts and light rain.

The storm hit about 8 p.m., causing damage and temporarily closing several streets. Parts of Perry were without electrical power, according to a spokesperson with the Perry Police Department.

First Avenue was closed at Park Street for several hours while city crews removed tree debris, and several other spots around town saw downed trees and broken power lines.

The plate glass window in the front of the old Dairy Stripe at 2802 Willis Ave. was shattered, apparently by windborne debris or air pressure.

No injuries were reported in the storm, according to the police spokesperson.

Rain will continue today, according to the National Weather Service offices in Johnston, along with the risk of non-severe thunderstorms.
