Three police officers sworn in; interim fire chief appointed Monday

Veteran Perry firefighter Grason Hill was appointed interim fire chief of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department Monday night by the Perry City Council.

The mayor of Perry swore in three new officers Monday night to the Perry Police Department, and the city council appointed an interim fire chief to the Perry Volunteer Fire Department.

Mayor John Andorf administered the oath to officers Jayden Day, Landon Guhse and Andrew Smith.

The peace officers have completed their train at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and will now have several months of field training, riding allow with fellow officers of the Perry force, according to Chief Eric Vaughn.

The Perry City Council approved the appointment of veteran Perry firefighter Grason Hill to the office of assistant fire chief of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department. Hill succeeds Chief Chris Hinds, who retired Sunday after 18 years at the post.

Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson informed the council that a hiring committee will be assembled in the coming weeks and tasked with seeking qualified applicants for a full-time chief for the Perry department.
