A changing of the guard on the Perry Historic Preservation Commission was confirmed Wednesday at the group’s February meeting, with four of the seven seats filled by new members.
The Perry City Council made the four appointments at its Jan. 19 meeting.
New members included Connie McGuire, who was appointed to a term expiring Jan 1, 2021. McGuire replaces longtime commissioner Ronda Onken, who did not wish to seek reappointment.
Cliff Fagen is also new to the commission, replacing another longtime commissioner, Judy Marckres, who also did not seek reappointment. Fagen will serve until Jan. 1, 2021.
Julie Scheib was appointed to complete the term of longtime commissioner Gary Martin following Martin’s resignation from the commission. The term expires Jan. 1, 2019.
Alissa Whitmore was also appointed to fill a mid-term vacancy created by the resignation of longtime commissioner Jeanette Peddicord, whose term also expires Jan. 1, 2019.
The city council also reappointed commissioner John Palmer to another term, which will expire Jan. 1, 2021. Commissioners Eugene Peel and Dave Berkemann will continue serving their terms, which expire Jan. 1, 2020.
Commission advisors Larry Vodenik, Chris Hinds, Liberty Willett and Joe McCarty also attended the February meeting.
Outgoing members were lauded for their service, and incoming members were encouraged to carry on the legacy of service for which the commission has long distinguished itself.
February business also included discussions of the completion of the GAR Memorial project at Violet Hill Cemetery and of future plans for the American Legion Hall and the First Christian Church.
The commission meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Clarion Room of the Security Bank Building.
