BOONE — The Raccoon River Conference portion of their schedule opened on a sour note for the Perry volleyball team Tuesday as host Boone scored a 3-0 win, the Toreadors posting the sweep on finals of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-16.
“Our energy level was great, we just struggled offensively,” Perry head coach John Fulton said. “I thought our back row did a great job of keeping us in the game, and Sidney Vancil did a great job, again, all the way around. We just struggled at times putting the ball down and scoring.”
Perry (1-7, 0-1) had only 13 kills in the match, with Isabel Saemisch tallying six kills, Vancil four and Adriana Eastman, Gabby West and Kacy Nevitt one apiece. Vancil had six assists and Magley Orellana two, with Syd Guerra recording four digs, Orellana three and Eastman and Vancil one each.
Saemisch was 7-of-9 serving with three aces, with Vancil 7-7-1 and Eastman 6-6-1. Nevitt was 5-5-1 behind the line, with Guerra 7-of-8, Mackenzie Ayers 3-of-4 and Quinn Whiton 2-of-3.
Perry will open play at Thursday’s ADM Tourney against Woodward-Granger at 4:30 p.m. in the South Gym, with a match against Knoxville to follow. A move to the main gym at 6:10 (time approximate) will open with Perry facing ADM, with the Jayettes to battle Norwalk and Nevada to conclude the tourney.
