Kacy Nevitt serves for Perry as teammates Gabby West (14) and Mackenzie Ayers await the play during a match last season.

Perry responded to a 25-14 loss in the opening game Tuesday with a 26-24 win in the second set against visiting Boone.

Unfortunately the hosts could not claim another game, with the Toreadors posting scores of 25-16 and 25-19 to win the Raccoon River Conference match and sour the Jayette home opener.

Poor serving made Perry their own worst enemy, as the team connected on just 60-of-76 serves (.798), each miss giving Boone an unearned point. Mackenzie Ayers was a perfect 19-of-19 with two aces, but no other Jayette served better than Jayna Kenney’s 8-of-10 80 percent effort. Peyton Tunink was 7-of-9, Quinn Whiton 9-of-12, Kacy Nevitt 8-of-12 and Jasmine Shriver 9-of-14 with two aces.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

Whiton led the team with 19 assists, with Stephanie Garcia providing three assists and Magley Orellana two. Orellana had a team-best 14 digs, with Ayers tallying eight digs, Garcia six, Shriver five, Whiton three and Nevitt, Tunink and Gabby West one apiece.

Nevitt had nine kills, Shriver six and West five to lead the attack, with Whiton tacking on three kills and Ayers and Tunink two each. West and Nevitt had one block apiece, with Ayers and Whiton each provided a block assist.

Perry will play Thursday in the ADM tournament and open action at 4:30 p.m. against Woodward-Granger.
