The Toreadors (6-1, 3-0) scored in the first inning when Clay Cornelis doubled and eventually scored on a passed ball, but the Bluejays (1-4, 1-1) countered with a run of their own when Kaleb Olejniczak led off with a triple and scored on Brandon Kenyon’s infield grounder.
A two-run Dresden Wilson base hit put the guests ahead, 3-1, in the top of the second, but the hosts scored once to cut their deficit to 3-2.
Kato Dougan had walked, and, when Keghan West singled to right, tried to advance to third. The throw to nail Dougan went wild, allowing him to scamper home and score.
Evan Appenzeller’s solo home run in the third moved the score to 4-2, where it remained until the seventh, when a walk, hit batsman, and an error, combined with a Jackson Smith triple and a Jake Lewis RBI-single to drive in three additional runs.
Austin Carpenter had two singles for Perry, with Gavin Boyer adding a single to account for the five hits the hosts recorded off Appenzeller, who walked one and struck out five in collecting the complete game victory.
West pitched six innings for the Jays, yielding four runs on five hits. He issued four walks, hit one batter, and struck out four. He was relieved for the seventh by Dougan, who allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits, a walk and a hit batsman.
Perry is at ADM tonight and Carlisle Monday before returning home to host Bondurant-Farrar Wednesday.
