The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a tornado watch until 8 p.m. Friday for the Perry area and the eastern half of Iowa.
The NWS described the current weather as “a particularly dangerous situation” with the possibility of “strong, long-lived tornadoes.” There are “numerous tornadoes expected, with a few intense tornadoes likely.”
Hail up to 3 inches in diameter and damaging wind gusts to 70 mph will also be “widespread,” the NWS said.
