Tornado watch in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday for Perry area

The National Weather Service offices in Johnston have issued a tornado watch for the Perry area until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Tornadoes are currently occurring over areas of central Iowa, the NWS said. Wind gusts as high as 90 mph and scattered large hail and isolated very large hail, with diameters to 4 inches, are also possible.

Along with Dallas County, the tornado watch is in effect for 79 other Iowa counties.
