The traditional Memorial Day Program in Perry will begin at 10 a.m. in the Perry Performing Arts Center. Presented as a joint effort by American Legion Post 85 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2060, the program will feature several readings and special musical offerings.
The program is available here.
Among other events Monday will be a 9 a.m. service at Fairview United Methodist Church. The church is located at 2162 Deer Ave north of Perry. Signs will direct the unfamiliar to the site. Pastor Paul Burrow will offer a message, with special music by Brent Halling.
There will also be a flag presentation and special readings as well. At the conclusion of the commemoration, a gun salute will be held at the cemetery across the road from the church.
Refreshments will follow in the church basement, and patriotic quilts will be on hand for guests to sign. The quilts will eventually be given to wounded soldiers.
Also on Monday will be a series of cemetery visits hosted by American Legion Post 99 of Minburn. First up will be a stop at Brown Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., with visits to Kimrey Cemetery at 10 a.m., Elmwood Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. and Raccoon River Cemetery at 11 a.m. to follow.
