A Waukee man was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly refusing to cooperate with local law enforcement in a trespassing investigation.
Jawanza Atima Curtis, 44, of 415 S.E. Jonas Circle, Waukee, was charged with interference with official acts-serious bodily injury, two counts of assault causing injury-peace officers and others, second-degree harassment and violation of a no-contact order.
The incident began about 4 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of S.E. Jonas Circle, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of an “unwanted person,” according to court records.
The officers made contact with Curtis “and asked if he has been trespassed” from the property, and he “stated he wasn’t,” according to court records.
Curtis allegedly repeatedly refused to provide to officers a driver’s license or his name and date of birth and eventually said “that he didn’t have to listen to officers and started to walk away,” according to court records.
When the officers moved to detain Curtis, he allegedly “started to resist” and attempted “to break free of officers’ grips,” according to court records. The officers then “took” Curtis “to the ground,” where they “were able to handcuff” him.
One officer allegedly “received fresh scrapes and red marks on both knees during the altercation,” and another officer “sustained an injury to the left knee with a scrape knee and fresh red marks,” according to court records.
Curtis is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,300 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 21 in Dallas County District Court.
