Clayton Chambliss of Minburn, right, talks with a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff in the wake of a car crashing onto his home about 3 a.m. Saturday.

A vehicle left the roadway of northbound U.S. Highway 169 in Minburn early Saturday and crashed through a fence and into a garage, injuring the driver and damaging the Minburn home.

The crash occurred shortly before 3 a.m. in the rear of 318 Walnut St. and caused extensive damage to the vehicle and the residential property.

A 21-year-old male was found conscious and breathing at the wheel of the overturned vehicle when law enforcement arrived on the scene. Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard said the driver was transported to a Des Moines hospital by Dallas County EMS.

The investigation of the mishap is ongoing, Leonard said.

The Walnut Street house is owned by Clayton and Jordan Chambliss. Kelly Stigers of West Des Moines, a sister to Jordan Chambliss, told ThePerryNews.com that neither her sister nor brother-in-law were injured in the incident, but “the site they walked down to was utterly terrifying.”

Stigers said the vehicle “entered in through the wall of the home and into a storage room and living room. The impact blew out the wall to the garage, causing damage to their vehicle. Thankfully they were both sleeping at the other end of the home” when the crash occurred.

She said her sister Jordan teaches fifth grade at ADM, and Clayton Chambliss works for the city of Clive.

As for the driver of the vehicle, Stigers said he “is in unknown condition to us but was talking to them before help arrived,” so they are “just hoping he is okay and will be expected to recover well.”

“We are so thankful Jordan, Clayton and their two dogs are safe,” she said.

The Minburn First Responders and Minburn Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

ThePerryNews.com will update this story as information becomes available.
