The pair of revelers at a company party who drove a runaway golf cart into the Perry Golf and Country Club pool Saturday afternoon were not intoxicated but merely ignorant of the cart’s operation, a spokesperson for the Boone County Sheriff’s office told ThePerryNews.com Monday morning.
“There’s nothing in the report about alcohol as a factor,” the spokesperson said. “It says they were inexperienced, and somebody fell off the cart, and the other one tried to steer the cart from the passenger seat but lost control, and it struck a privacy fence around the pool, and it continued past the fence and into the pool.”
There were no injuries in the incident, which occurred about 2 p.m., when about 20 adults and children were in the pool, according to a witness.
“It was people being on a golf car that shouldn’t have been on it,” the sheriff’s spokesperson said. “Apparently, they didn’t want to file charges on it because basically it was an accident.”
The out-of-control driver was allegedly attached to a company party sponsored by Tyson Fresh Meats.
“They are lucky there are not any fatalities or injuries,” said Joelle Miner of Perry, longtime Perry Golf and Country Club member.
The Boone County Sheriff’s office responded to the incident.
