UPDATE: Iowa State Patrol issues crash report Thursday

The Iowa State Patrol issued a report Thursday afternoon about the crash on Iowa Highway 141 Thursday morning that claimed the lives of two juveniles from Jamaica and critically injured a third juvenile.

The names of the victims have not been made public except within the Perry school system, where the young people are students. Counseling support for students will be available starting at 10 a.m. Friday, which is also the start of spring break in the Perry school system.

The accident occurred about 7:45 a.m. on Iowa Highway 141 between I Court and Diagonal Road in conditions of “heavy snow fall and 100% covered road surface,” according to the ISP report.

The three young people were traveling eastbound in a 2007 Toyota Camry when their vehicle “lost traction, rotated and entered the westbound lane,” according to the report, and into the path of a westbound 2020 Volvo box truck, which “steered right” and “braked” before colliding with “the passenger side” of the car.

The truck was driven by Orris F. McKay, 56, of Carthage, Illinois, and owned by Supreme Swine Nutrition of Elvaston, Illinois, according to the report. McKay was not injured in the crash.

The injured juvenile was transported to the Dallas County Hospital by Dallas County EMS, according to the report.

The incident was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol, and the state highway was reopened to through traffic shortly before noon.

The Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders, Perry Volunteer Fire Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Dallas County EMS, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement and Iowa State Patrol responded.
