An incident Friday night involving a distraught man who was briefly held at gunpoint in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery and later kept law enforcement officers in a standoff ended peacefully. There were no arrests.
A caller reported about 9 p.m. that a suicidal man was at the cemetery. Officers of the Van Meter Police Department and Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded and found the man’s vehicle parked inside the cemetery.
A search of the nearby woods soon discovered the unhappy man, whom law enforcement officers “contained” on the scene for several hours before he surrendered without incident.
