Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante issued a statement to the media about 10 a.m. Thursday in regard to the shooting early in the day at Perry High School.

Very little information was available for release at the time by the sheriff, who was joined by representatives of several other law enforcement agencies, including the Perry Police Department, the Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Iowa State Patrol.

Law enforcement arrived seven minutes after the initial report of an active shooter at 7:37 a.m., Infante said. He said “multiple gunshot victims” were found at the scene but did not specify the number.

The shooter has been identified, the sheriff said.

The school district announced that counseling services will be available at the Perry Public Library Friday, Jan. 5 and Saturday, Jan. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be no school on Friday, the district said.

Another statement from law enforcement will be issued at noon, Infante said.
