Two Perry residents were killed Monday and two were seriously injured when their vehicles collided shortly before noon in rural Boone County.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, Javier Hernandez, 39, of Perry and Amelia Huaracha de Hernandez, 62, of Perry were pronounced dead at the scene.

Reid Schaefer, 50, of Perry and Christine Schaefer, 49, of Perry were transported by air ambulance to Des Moines hospitals with serious injuries, according to the crash report.

According to the report, the Shaefers were traveling eastbound on 310th Street in a 2022 Volkswagen Taos and failed to yield the right of way at G Avenue, where the Hernandezes were traveling northbound in a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado.

The vehicles collided in the intersection, according to the crash report. Both vehicles came to rest on the northeast side of the intersection.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office, Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders, Perry Volunteer Fire Department, Boone County EMS and Dallas County EMS responded.
