Cletus M. Waylee, 18, of Urbandale, was arrested May 1 on a warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

An Urbandale teenager was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Wednesday in connection with a January incident in which he allegedly struck his mother in the face.

Cletus M. Waylee, 18, of 14412 Holcomb Ave., Urbandale, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 12:15 p.m. on Jan. 30 in the 14400 block of Holcomb Avenue, where officers of the Urbandale Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that he son “struck her in the face,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “swelling on her cheek and redness in her eye consistent with being struck by a blunt force,” according to court records.

The officers made contact with Waylee, who told the officers that “he was attacked by his mother” and “was defending himself,” according to court records.

Waylee “later had conflicting statements on how the altercation occurred” and then “refused to answer questions,” according to court records.

Waylee was released on his own recognizance from the Dallas County Jail on Jan. 31. When he failed to appear for arraignment on March 21, a warrant for Waylee’s arrest was ordered in Dallas County District Court and served May 1. He was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. Waylee is scheduled for a pretrial conference May 23.
