Timothy Reed Arnold, 38, of Van Meter was arrested Sunday on charges of first-offense domestic abuse assault-impeding flow of air/blood, first-degree harassment, third-degree criminal mischief and obstruction of emergency communications.

A Van Meter man was arrested Sunday after allegedly assaulting a Van Meter woman in their home.

Timothy Reed Arnold, 38, of 26710 352nd Pl., Van Meter, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-impeding flow of air/blood, first-degree harassment, third-degree criminal mischief and obstruction of emergency communications.

The incident began about 9:15 p.m. Sunday in the 26700 block of 352nd Place in Van Meter, where Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

According to court records, Arnold “first threw food at the victim” and then allegedly “took the victim’s phone away and told her to get out” after she threatened to call 911.

After allegedly “breaking the phone, rendering it inoperable,” Arnold allegedly “drug the victim towards the back door by her foot” and “held the victim on the ground and strangled her neck with a phone charging cord, leaving red marks on the victim’s neck,” according to court records.

The victim told the deputies “that she could not breath” and that Arnold “told her that he was going to kill her,” according to court records.

Arnold was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 8 in Dallas County District Court.

Arnold was convicted of assault causing bodily injury in 2006 in Linn County District Court.
