Victory wave continues for Perry swimmers

DENISON — Talented and deep, the Perry Summer Swim Team continued their impressive burst through the regular season with another pair of Iowa West Swim Conference victories last week.

Perry was a 358-236 winner at Denison Thursday, with the victory coming two days after a 434-151 humbling of host Lake City.

Lily Riley (9-10), Sophia McDevitt (11-12) and Haley Vaughn (15-18) finished with a perfect five win for the Perry girls at Denison (a win defined as an individual victory or as a first-place relay member).

Aleah Karolus (8U), Quin Mahler-Moreno (9-10), Jaylene Karolus and (11-12) recorded four wins apiece, with Stephanie Hill and Breanna Penenger (both 15-18) triple winners. Double wins were recorded by Rachel Johnson, Isabelle Powell and Sarah Prombo (all 8U), Zoe Hibbert and Rebecca Johnson (both 9-10) and Addison Huntington (11-12) while Hailey Greiner and Sarah Merz (both 11-12), Abby Herman (13-14) and Dannah Karolus and Anna Ridnour (both 15-18) each added victories.

The Perry boys were led Thursday by five-time victor Garrett Winey (11-12), with Devon Archer and Ethan Winey (both 15-18) posting four wins each. Triple-winners included Isaac Winey (8U), Joel Storey (9-10), Riese Archer and Jacob Storey (both 13-14), with Kane Mahler-Moreno (9-10), Logan Castillo, Josh Prombo and Ian Thompson (all 11-12), Cristopher Gonzalez, Samuel Ridnour and Dylan Winey (all 13-14) and Drew Storey and Caleb Winey (both 15-18) all recording two wins apiece.

Townes Wilson (8U) and Grant Tierney (9-10) also had wins for the Perry boys.

Perry had their most dominant win of the season Tuesday at Lake City, where Aleah Karolus (8U), Riley (9-10) and Vaughn (15-18) all tallied quintuple wins and Mahler-Moreno (9-10), McDevitt (11-12) and Hill (15-18) four wins for the girls. Huntington (11-12) and Penenger (15-18) posted three wins, with double-wins recorded by Johnson, Powell and Prombo (8U), Hibbert and Johnson (both 9-10), and Greiner and Karolus (both 11-12).

Aiding the winning cause with single wins were Herman (13-14) and Karolus and Ridnour (both 15-18).

Joel Storey (9-10), Garrett Winey (11-12), Riese Archer (13-14) and Devon Archer (15-18) each had five wins for the Jays, with Ethan Winey (15-18) a four-time winner. Triple victories were notched by Winey (8U), Castillo and Thompson (both 11-12) and Winey (15-18), with Gonzalez, Ridnour, Storey and Winey (all 13-14) and Storey (15-18) each winning twice.

Wins from Bryan Anderson, Dysen Deardorff and Wilson (all 8U), Prombo (11-12) and Chase Archer (15-18) helped Perry amass their final score.

The PSST will host two meets next week, with Manning visiting the MCB Pool Tuesday and Glidden Thursday. A home meet against Glidden follows on July 6 to conclude the regular season, with the IWSC meet at Sac City July 15. The three home meets will each begin at 6:30 p.m.
