Gilbert's Ryan Blum is corralled by Ivan Garcia, Kade VanKirk (2) and Donald Chavez (25) as Jacob Thompson (22) and Adan Medina (35) run toward the play.

Perry struggled in a 44-0 loss to visiting Gilbert last Friday at Dewey Field, but in any game there are always moments in which one, two or several players stand out.

ThePerryNews is, as always, happy to be your source for the most complete coverage of Perry sports you will find. With thanks to assistant coach Matt Hardy for his help again this week, we are proud to bring several excellent plays to light …

Defensive end Solomon Pierce (54) slides down the line of scrimmage to bring down Tiger tailback Zachary Becker (11) for a loss of one yard.

Blocks from Mark Campos (28) and Nic Fellom (26) helped keep defenders away from Taviar Lucas (13), who returned this second quarter kick off 30 yards.

Liinebacker Campos (28) dropped back into coverage and came away with this interception.

Lucas (13) pulls in an inside slant pass from Ryan Rathje (4) and makes the first man miss to gain 10 yards and give Perry a new set of downs.

Gilbert quarterback Cole Drzycimski is sandwiched for no gain by Campos (28), Pierce (54) and Tyler Soll (67).

Grant Eklund (82) snares his first career varsity interception to snuff out a Gilbert drive.

Perry will travel to Boone Friday for the Class 3A District 2 opener for both squads. The Bluejays defeated the Toreadors, 21-14, last season. Varsity action will start at approximately 7:30 p.m.
