PANORA — As part of their Homecoming 2016 celebration, the Panorama schools filled the bleachers at Panther Field Friday afternoon for an extended celebration.
The Homecoming Court were paraded on the track by golf cart as the student body of all grades cheered. King Victor Barroso and Queen Savana Mobley received wild applause, but the cheers were hardly less for queen candidates Maggie Smith, Sky Larson, Mathison Twigg and Mallorie Pittman or for king candidates Tyler VanHouten, George Appleseth, Peyton Parker and Will Babcock.
The court participated in a change-of-outfit contest in front of the crowd, with several girls chosen to put makeup on several of the football players, but to do so while blindfolded. The results were, as expected, hilarious.
The high school band played and the big event — the “Iron Woman” PowderPuff football game was held on the field. The combined junior-freshman team scored a late touchdown — successfully adding the two-point conversion — to score an 8-0 victory over the senion-sophomore squad.
Another part of the Homecoming celebration actually began Thursday evening, when Anna Holloway, Chloe Webster, Maisie Knapp and Lydia Lindstrom traveled to Manson with Angie Holloway for an overnight stay.
At 7 a.m. Anna Holloway and Webster began the first and Knapp and Lindstrom the second of the 13 stages for the Panther cross country team that carried the game ball to Panora, a trip of over 68 miles. Mitch Wagler and Austin Behrends received the ball in Yale at 5:20 p.m. for the final 6.5 mile stage, with the entire cross country team presenting the game ball at midfield just before the 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Panthers were 35-7 victors over NW Webster in their Class 1A District 6 game.
