The Hotel Pattee will be closed until further notice, the hotel's owner announced Friday. The hotel restaurant is still offering carry-out meals.

The Hotel Pattee has temporarily closed its doors to guests in an effort to weather the business downturn caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus, according to Tom Maxwell, who bought the Hotel Pattee in 2018.

Built in 1914, the 40-room Hotel Pattee underwent a $14 million renovation in the late 1990s and remains the commercial hub of downtown Perry.

The U.S. hotel industry asked the federal government for a $150 billion bailout Tuesday, joining the growing ranks of businesses appealing for help from Uncle Sam during the global pandemic.

According to the American Hotel and Lodging Association, U.S. hotels have lost an estimated $1.5 billion in room revenues since mid-February, and losses are rapidly accelerating, with the industry on pace to lose $1.4 billion per week.

The hotel industry expects 1 million U.S. jobs have already been eliminated or will be in the next few weeks.
