Virus worries cause first local cancellations

Concerns about the global COVID-19 pandemic led to the announcement Friday of the cancellation of several Perry-area events.

The Perry Fine Arts concert featuring the New Horizon Band of Des Moines and scheduled for Sunday, March 15, has been cancelled.  The Friday, April 24 staging of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” is still scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center.

The Washington Township Consolidated School soup supper and pie auction fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, April 4 has been cancelled out of an abundance of caution.

U.S. President Donald Trump declared the coronavirus pandemic a national emergency Friday. He declared a public health emergency in late January.
