
MENLO — The boys varsity and junior varsity were joined by four girls varsity runners Thursday as Woodward-Granger ran in the West Central Valley Invitational, held at the 5×80 Golf Course.
The Hawk boys were seventh in a 10-team field with 210 points. Tenth-ranked Woodward Academy won the team title with 54 points, with No. 13 AC/GC second at 61 while Ogden placed third with 79 points.
Chandler Cavanaugh was the first W-G harrier to finish, crossing 27th in 19 minutes, 4.99 seconds. Alex Bice was 32nd, in 19:21.67, with Caleb Jones (44th, 19:47.81), Kaya Bowlsby (52nd, 20:06.32) and Keith Braunschweig (55th, 20:09.99) also scoring. Hunter Pierce (58th, 20:15.31) and Cody Garland (64th, 20:51.65) also ran for the varsity, but their places were not used for the team score.
Dylan Steele (21:15.55), Nick Bush (23:36.77), Cole Theisen (24:28.67), Kainen Fuson (24:44.68) and Kurt Crouse (24:56.71) ran for the W-G JV.
With only four runners the Hawk girls were unable to generate a team score. Eighth-rated Panorama won the meet with 30 points, with AC/GC (46) second and Missouri Valley (103) third.
Posey Robinson (23:57.97) was the first Hawk finisher, with Natalie Helbling (24:40.14) second. Josie Noland was close behind, in 24:42.9, with Chloe David crossing in 26:02.17.
The Hawk middle school teams did not compete Thursday.
W-G will run Monday at Nodaway Valley and again Thursday at Saydel.
