
WOODWARD — Seniors Olivia McCune and Mary Hansen were recently honored by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association with inclusion on the Class 2A All-State volleyball teams.
McCune was chosen for the Third Team, with Hansen placed on the Honorable Mention list. The duo helped W-G finish the season 31-8 overall. The team won their third consecutive WCC conference crown along the way and are 24-0 in league play over that span, losing just two sets in 24 matches. The Hawks are 91-26 in the past three seasons, with just three losses (none in the regular season) to schools smaller than 3A.
McCune leaves as the school leader in career blocks with 197, with Hansen departing with the second-most ace serves (239) in school history.
Both played in 98 sets and produced individual statistic lines this season that sparkle. McCune had 342 kills (3.49 per set) and had 70 digs and 50 blocks while serving 312-of-338 (.923) with 57 aces while Hansen had 247 kills (2.49 kps) while distributing 372 assists, making 211 digs and blocking 27 attempted kills. She finished 219-of-252 (.869) with 39 aces behind the line.
The Hawks are coached by Meg Jackson, who is 290-141 (.673) in 15 seasons at W-G.
