GRANGER — Highly-regarded Woodward-Granger had to scrap for their lives Monday, scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh to slip past AC/GC in WCAC play at Hawk Field.
The hosts had a 1-0 lead after Caden Easter drove in Reese Jamison with a RBI-ground out in the bottom of the third, but the Chargers scored twice in the top of the seventh to take a surprising 2-1 lead.
Jamison set a new school record with his one-out single in the seventh, the 140th hit in his career. He moved up a base when Jack Grell walked, with an infield single from Pacey Moats loading the bases.
Easter’s second RBI ground-out of the game tied the contest, with Brandon Worley reloading the bags after being hit with a pitch.
Lefty Bryce Achenbach’s seeing-eye single between first and second base plated Grell, giving the hosts the victory.
Jamison and Worley each walked twice, with a single from Alex Bice the other offensive moment for the Hawks.
Easter was masterful on the mound, throwing 4-2/3 innings of no-hit, no walk ball while striking out 12. Trevor Simmons went two-third on an inning and allowed one hit, with Jay Dorenkamp the winner despite allowing two runs on two hits in 1-2/3 stanzas. He struck out three.
