URBANDALE — Des Moines Christian put up a good fight, but that proved to be not nearly enough to pull an upset as Class 2A No. 8 Woodward-Granger rolled to a 3-0 win in WCC volleyball Tuesday.

W-G improved to 14-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play with the victory. The Hawks started swiftly, taking control of the first game early and posting a 25-14 win. The Lions (6-7, 1-1) retaliated with a strong effort in the second game, but the Hawks were able to prevail on a 25-22 final before finishing off the sweep with a 25-20 win in the third game.

Olivia McCune and Bree Lesch led the offense with 13 and 11 kills, respectively, with Mary Hansen adding six kills, Ashley Gales three and Alyssa Bice two. Bice had 20 assists and Hansen 13, with Lesch and Kara Bodensteiner both providing one assist each.

W-G was stout above the net, with Hansen recording four blocks and McCune three while Bice also had a rejection.

Bodensteiner finished with 15 digs and Kaycee Major with nine, with Lesch having eights digs and Bice four. Hansen tallied three digs, McCune and Riley Kirton two each and Gales one.

Bice was impressive behind the line with eight aces on 19-of-21 serving. McCune was 11-11-1, Bodensteiner 9-12-2 and Kirton 7-11-1 with Lesch 8-of-10, Emma Drake 3-of-4 and Hansen 1-of-3.
