CLARION — Spirit Lake Park surprised Woodward-Granger with a 48-36 win in first round of the Class 2A Dual Team Regionals Tuesday, eliminating the Hawks from further team competition.

Host and second-ranked Clarion-Goldfield-Dows handled Algona, 58-13, in the other semifinal, then blasted SLP, 64-18, to earn a spot at the Dual Team State Tourney.

W-G had six wins against SLP, with two — from Dilynn Lewiston at 113 pounds and Griffen Gibbons at 160 — coming via forfeit.

Hunter Pierce pinned Noah Hughes in just 10 seconds at 106 pounds for six Hawk points, with Matthew White pinning Jonah Eldridge in 5 minutes, 13 seconds at 120 for six more team points.

Ryan Munoz added a pin at 126 pounds by sticking Bryan Leather in 1:35, with third-ranked Cody Fisher needing just 28 seconds to nail Preston Murray in their battle at 195.

Pierce (106), Munoz (120), and Fisher (195) will be joined by Austin Scharlau (152), Gabe Yingst (160) and Dillon Fogarty (220) Saturday at a District Tourney in Harlan, with spots at the state tourney up for grabs. Wrestling will begin at 12 p.m.
