Walter Peel, 65, of Perry passed away Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at his home in Perry, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery near Perry, Iowa.

John was known best by his friends and family as “John.” He was born March 28, 1958, to Donald Peel and Betty Ikerd Peel.

John grew up in the Perry area. After school he enlisted into the U.S. Army, but after four short months he was honorably discharged for medical reasons.

On Oct. 18, 1975, he was united in marriage to Kelly, and they were blessed with three children, Shawn, Eric and Michael.

After they parted, he was then united in marriage to Tammy Richardson on Nov. 8, 1985. John gained a son Daniel when he married Tammy. John and Tammy were blessed with twins, Courtney and Cory, on Nov. 5, 1990.

John was a volunteer fireman.

He had a love of motorcycles, hot rods, ATVs/UTVs and snowmobiles.

But his biggest love of all was hunting, in which he got all of his and Tammy’s kids involved.

John was the cook of the family, and he would fix and tinker around with almost anything.

He enjoyed horses, cats and his dogs.

John was mostly a soft-spoken, quiet man with a tough exterior, not to be fooled because he could lay down the law if he needed to.

John was a jack of all trades and master of none, and he did anything for work, ranging from CNA to factory work.

John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Tammy; his children, Courtney (Scott) Roseberry, Cory Peel, Daniel (Sammy) Richardson, Shawn (Danny) Daggett, Michael (Heather) Peel and Eric (Dana) Peel; grandchildren, Gracelynn, Chloe Alice, Andrew, Alex, Skylar, Chloe, Ethan, Aspen, Keeran, Shaniza, London, Cody, Justin and Kaitlynn; great-grandchildren, Dallas, Payton, Karli, Emma, Wyatt, Laura Gabriel and Athena; one step-sister, Lena Smith; and aunt, Bonnie Ikerd.

John was preceded in death by his parents, step-parents and his brother/best friend.

Memorials will be given to his family and may be left at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.
