A Waterloo man led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit Thursday night along Iowa Highway 141 from Perry to the Granger area, where he was forcibly detained.
Preston Samuel Brandt, 53, of 215 Denver St.,. Waterloo, was charged with eluding, two counts of interference with official acts, false ID and driving while suspended.
The incident began about 7:15 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Iowa Highway 141 and Willis Avenue, where a patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department stopped a 2004 Honda CRV, driven by Brandt, for a traffic violation.
The officer made contact with Brandt, who claimed he had no ID in his possession and who allegedly misinformed the officer of his name.
The officer directed Brandt “several times” to step out of the vehicle, but Brandt allegedly “failed to comply,” according to court records. When the officer “opened the driver side door,” Brandt “drove off and a vehicle pursuit followed.”
With the assistance of other officers of the Perry Police Department and deputy sheriffs from Boone and Dallas counties, Brandt’s vehicle was stopped on Iowa Highway 141 near V Avenue.
Brandt again allegedly “failed to comply” when directed to exit the vehicle, and he was “assisted” out of the vehicle by an officer.
Brandt is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 30 in Dallas County District Court.
