Tanner Joseph Wilkins, 29, of Waukee was arrested Thursday on charges of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and interference with official acts.

A Waukee man was arrested Thursday night after a domestic dispute allegedly turned physical, and he allegedly resisted the intervention of law enforcement.

Tanner Joseph Wilkins, 29, of 1120 S.E. Olson Dr., Waukee, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and interference with official acts.

The incident began about 8:30 p.m. Thursday at a residence in the 1100 block of S.E. Olson Drive, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a domestic dispute.

Video recorded by a witness showed the female victim “attempting to proceed past” Wilkins in order “to go back into the apartment several times” and Wilkins allegedly “stepping in front of her and using his arms to physically prevent her from proceeding past him several times and backing her up to the dividing wall of the next balcony,” according to court records.

The video showed that Wilkins allegedly “wrapped the victim in a ‘bear hug’ and pushed her up against the exterior wall of the apartment,” according to court records.

When the officers informed Wilkins that he “was going to be escorted to a patrol vehicle while the investigation continued,” he allegedly “began physically resisting officers’ efforts”
to escort him outside “until officers directed him to the ground in the hallway,” according to court records.

Wilkins is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $300 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a pretrial conference June 26 in Dallas County District Court.
