Waukee man allegedly assaults woman, harasses cops

Jamie Ray VanZuuk, 36, of Waukee was arrested Thursday on charges of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness, first-degree harassment and public intoxication.

A Waukee man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly assaulting a Waukee woman in the home and then harassing the law enforcement officers investigating the alleged crime.

Jamie Ray VanZuuk, 36, of 1095 Braden Court, Waukee, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness, two counts of first-degree harassment and public intoxication.

The incident began about 7:30 p.m. Thursday at a residence in the 1000 block of Braden Court, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that VanZuuk allegedly “pushed the victim, using both of his hands in the chest area, which resulted in the victim
falling to the ground,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that VanZuuk then “cornered” her, and she believed he “was going to hit her” with an object, according to court records.

The victim complained of pain to her lip, according to court records.

The officers made contact with VanZuuk, who allegedly “did smell heavy of an alcoholic beverage” and “did act aggressively and assaultive with no self-control” toward the officers, according to court records.

In a phone call, VanZuuk allegedly said to an officer, “”You’re about half dumb if you think a Green Beret is going to meet up with your dumbass. You’re about half dumb, nigga. You’ll get shot in the face talking to me, nigga, and that’s a threat, bitch,” according to court records.

Once VanZuuk was detained, handcuffed and seated in a patrol vehicle, he allegedly “continuously kicked the interior of the squad car,” according to court records. When asked to stop, he allegedly told the officers, “I will kill you, mother fucker!”

VanZuuk is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 28 in Dallas County District Court.

VanZuuik was convicted of public intoxication in 2008 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of assault on persons in certain occupations in 2015 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of public intoxication in 2016 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness in 2021 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault on persons in certain occupations in 2021 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault on persons in certain occupations in 2021 in Polk County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
