Cody John Cannon, 38, of Waukee was arrested Sunday on charges of false assault and domestic abuse assault-strangulation with injury and false imprisonment.

A Waukee man allegedly assaulted his wife early Sunday, biting, strangling and trapping the victim in their Waukee home.

Cody John Cannon, 38, of 305 Gray Ave., Waukee, was charged with domestic abuse assault-impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury and false imprisonment.

Officers of the Waukee Police Department made contact with the victim, who said that “her husband had assaulted her by strangling her” when he “placed his hands around her neck, restricting oxygen or blood flow,” according to court records.

The victim said Cannon “also bit her on the chest” and “had ‘trapped’ her in the bathroom and threatened to kill her,” according to court records.

Officers observed on the victim “multiple visible injuries consistent with what she was reporting, including bruising on her neck, arms and chest,” and the “bruising on her chest looked to be consistent with a bite mark,” according to court records.

Cannon was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 21 in Dallas County District Court.

Cannon was convicted of willful injury causing bodily injury in 2001 in Polk County District Court.
