A Waukee man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a February incident in which he allegedly strangled a Waukee woman during a dispute over car keys.

David Andrew Vigus, 32, of 1480 S.E. Bishop Dr., Waukee, was charged with willful injury causing bodily injury.

The incident began about 6:15 a.m. Feb. 11 in the 1400 block of S.E. Bishop Drive, where Vigus and the victim “got into an argument over car keys,” according to court records.

Vigus allegedly grabbed the victim’s phone when she said that she was going to call the police. The victim “tried to grab her phone back, and that is when Vigus grabbed her by the throat and began to choke her,” according to court records.

At length the victim allegedly “fell to the floor, and Vigus was now on top of her, still choking her,” and Vigus “then put his hand over her mouth while he was still choking her,” according to court records.

A warrant for Vigus’ arrest was ordered Feb. 12 in Dallas County District Court and served April 6.

Vigus was arrested in Des Moines March 5 on a charge of malicious prosecution after he allegedly falsely identified himself to law enforcement in an attempt “to get away with not being picked up on a valid felony warrant out of Waukee P.D. for willful injury,” according to court records. Vigus pleaded guilty to the charge April 4. The case is pending in Polk County District Court. Vigus was convicted of providing false identification information Feb. 4, 2022, in Dallas County District Court.
