Miles David Merical, 24, of Waukee was arrested Thursday on a charge of violation of a no-contact order.

A Waukee man was arrested early Thursday in the company of a woman he strangled out of consciousness in January 2020.

Miles David Merical, 24, of 260 Fifth St., Waukee, was charged with violation of a no-contact order.

The incident began about 3:45 a.m. Thursday in the 100 Block of Marshall Drive, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of “two people on bikes, looking through cars,” according to court records.

The officers made contact with the suspicious male and female bicyclists. A records check  was performed, and “a protection/no-contact order came up between the two,” according to court records. “The female/victim had the no-contact order for” Merical, who was taken into custody by police.

The no-contact order stemmed from Merical’s May 2020 conviction for assault in connection with an incident in which he “placed his hands around” the victim’s “throat, resulting in loss of consciousness due to lack of oxygen,” according to court records.

Merical is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $300 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a hearing June 11 in Dallas County District Court.
