A Waukee man was arrested Sunday after crashing his vehicle in an apparent attempt to injure or kill himself and his wife.

Elsiedig Ali Ali, 48, of 3915 Bison Trail, Waukee, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault, false imprisonment and reckless driving.

The incident began about 4:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Chestnut Drive and Bison Trail in Waukee, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash.

The officers “located debris at the intersection of Bison Trail and Chestnut Drive but no vehicle,” according to court records.

An investigation led to the residence of Ali, where they found a 2014 Toyota Sienna in a garage with “visible damage to the front end area of the vehicle and missing components consistent with the debris officers had located down the street,” according to court records.

The officers made contact with Ali, who told the officers that his “vehicle was not just involved in an accident or crash,” according to court records.

The officers made contact with the female victim, who told the officers that during the course of a verbal dispute in the vehicle, Ali allegedly “placed the car in drive and began rapidly accelerating down the street with the victim still in the passenger seat of the vehicle,” according to court records.

While speeding down the street, Ali said to the victim, “We’re going to go together,” which the victim took to mean that Ali was attempting to kill her or the both of them by crashing the vehicle, according to court records.

Officers obtained video from a nearby residence that showed Ali’s vehicle “skidding out of control in the intersection and crashing up over the curb,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that she “reached over and forced the gear shift into park” and then leapt from the slowing vehicle and escaped.

Ali is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 30 in Dallas County District Court.
