
WOODWARD — Visiting West Central Valley grabbed a quick lead and never relented in scoring a 54-41 win over Woodward-Granger in WCAC girls basketball Tuesday.
The Wildcats (5-6, 3-5) jumped out to a 19-6 lead after one frame, but the Hawks (2-11, 0-9) were able to cut into their deficit to trail 25-17 at the break. WCV pushed their lead back to 13 points, at 38-25, after three frames and maintained the margin to secure the win.
Grace Dupuy had 24 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for WCV, with Sydney Neal adding 15 points while collecting 16 boards. The Wildcats won despite misfiring on all 11 attempted 3-pointers.
Alyssa Bice poured in 24 points for W-G, with Katelyn Scharlau adding seven points. Four points apiece from Lisa Pitman and Kaitlyn Peters and two from Kayley Dresback capped the Hawk scoring.
W-G hosts Des Moines Christian Friday, with the Hawk junior varsity and varsity girls traveling to Traer to face North Tama Tuesday. Both W-G teams will entertain Van Meter Jan. 19.
