WEBSTER CITY — Four second quarter touchdowns powered Webster City past visiting Perry, 55-0, in Class 3A District 2 football Friday.
The Lynx (6-1, 4-1) dominated all facets of the game, limiting the Bluejays (2-5, 0-5) to only 31 yards passing and just 29 rushing yards on 19 carries. While Perry snapped the ball on offense just 29 times, Webster City had 53 plays on offense. The hosts ran 50 times for 416 yards and six touchdowns while hitting 1-of-3 passes for a 30-yard score. The Lynx also returned a punt 60 yards for a TD.
Robert Frederickson’s short touchdown run gave Webster City a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. While the Perry offense showed no signs of going anywhere, the defense kept the Lynx and their single-wing “spinback” offense in check until the hosts broke open the game in a three-and-a-half minute span in the second period.
Drew Fielder’s three-yard run with 10:49 to play in the first half put the score at 14-0, with Payton Kannuan’s 60-yard punt return at the 7:45 mark raising the margin to 21-0. Perry promptly fumbled away the ensuing kick-off, with Kannuan hitting Zane Carter on a halfback pass for a 30-yard score and a 28-0 advantage 26 seconds later.
Fredrickson burst untouched right through the middle of the defense with 2:36 remaining in the quarter to give the hosts a 35-0 lead at the break.
A disheartened Perry, facing a continuous clock for the second half, quickly fell into a 42-0 hole when Dylan Steen ran past several defenders en route to a 60-yard score just 86 seconds into the third quarter. His 41-yard dash with 3:53 left in the period widened the gap to 48-0.
Brady Auderer’s one-yard dive almost three minutes into the fourth quarter capped the scoring.
Frederickson ran 23 times for 139 yards and two scores and Steen twice for 101 yards and two scores. Kannuan (7-69), Trace Kepler (5-33), Fielder (6-25, 1 TD), Drake Doolittle (3-24) and Auderer (4-8, 1 TD) also carried the ball for the Lynx.

Caleb Olson led the Webster City defense with six tackles, with Carter and Doolittle each making interceptions. The player recovering the fumbled Perry kick off was not identified.
Alexis Garrido was 4-10-2 for 31 yards passing for Perry, with Wyatt Hallng missing on both of his attempts. Mark Campos (1-17), Reece Dunlap and Janier Puente (both 1-5) and Brandon Kenyon (1-4) had the receptions for the Bluejays.
Garrido’s 14 yards on six runs was the highest rushing total by a Perry player. Campos (5-8), Adan Medina (3-8) and Donald Chavez (2-8) also ran for the guests, as did Halling (2 for minus-4) and Dunlap (1 for minus-5).
Dunlap and Kaleb Olejniczak had 10 tackles apiece for the defense, with Campos and Tyler Soll making five stops apiece while Grant Eklund fell on a fumble.
Perry will visit winless Greene County (Gilbert topped the Rams, 35-18, Oct. 7) Friday for the 85th playing of the Cowbell Game. The Rams passed for 202 yards and four scores and ran for one score at 185 yards in claiming a 35-0 win in Jefferson last year. Perry was held to 58 passing and 39 rushing yards. The Rams lead the all-time series 54-28-2.
